Title: Noli Eating Rice

Medium: watercolor, graphite, charcoal on paper.

Size: 24x18"

This is a painting of my father eating rice with a spoon and fork. This is a reaction to news about a little Filipino boy in Canada who was repeatedly scolded for eating rice using a spoon and fork at lunch time in May of 2006.   This made national headlines which brought Filipino protesters in the Philippines to picket the Canadian embassy to support the Filipino boy. Traditionally, most Filipino Americans eat with a spoon and fork when eating rice.  Discrimination and ethnocentrism should not be tolerated and have no place in America or Canada for that matter.
